RotorMap

RotorMap is a Windows application for determining distance and bearing to a remote station, and plot it on a map. It is currently in beta, but basic functionality is available.

2011-09-05: Changed callsign lookup database to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Callsign Server because QRZ now requires logins for basic address data.

The following features are currently implemented:

  • Maidenhead calculations from grid square or lat/long
  • Distance plot of source and target Lat/Long on Google Maps
  • Distance and bearing based on callsign lookup from University of Arkansas at Little Rock Callsign Server
  • Compass widget to display bearing
  • Saving of default callsign, grid, longitude, latitude, etc.
  • HyGain DCU-1 protocol rotor control (RotorEZ tested)
  • Current rotor heading parsed and processed from rotor controller
  • Geocoding support to translate callsign address to lat/long for improved accuracy

The following features are planned for future release:

  • Other rotor control
    • ARSMAP integration is next.
  • Interaction with map back to main application, allowing “click to” bearing

Usage Instructions

This software is designed to be very easy to use. The first time you run it, click the “Options” button at the bottom right. Next, set your grid square and callsign, check the auto fill box, and select your preference for units and which box has initial focus. If you have a rotor with Rotor-EZ or DCU-1, use the rotor tab to select which serial port and the desired update interval. Don't forget to check the box to enable rotor control! Any changes on the Rotor tab will require the program be restarted.

System Requirements

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
  • Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework – install this if you get an error when running.
  • Internet connection for callsign lookup and mapping
